At the funeral, Villas-Boas expressed the club's intentions, stating that they had been working with Diogo's agent, Jorge Mendes, to bring him back to FC Porto from 2026-27. He had previously discussed this possibility with Diogo and his family, including at his wedding.
AVB also paid tribute to Diogo Jota, describing him as a "silent hero" who was loved by all for his dedication to the club and its values. He noted that Diogo had a special connection with FC Porto, having been a partner with the club's Esports team.
As a gesture of respect, Villas-Boas said that Diogo would be considered a member of the club, effective immediately. The club also symbolically returned André Silva's membership fees to his family.
AVB extended his condolences to Diogo's teammates from Liverpool, Wolverhampton, and other clubs who were affected by the tragedy. He urged everyone to take a moment to reflect on the loss of two young lives.
