Carragher was impressed by City's performance in their Premier League opener against Wolves. He said, "It's just one game, but I couldn't help thinking about what Pep said last season about the game not being his style. He likes transition and end-to-end football."
Carragher, who worked with Lijnders at Liverpool, thinks the Dutchman has had a significant influence on Guardiola. "Pep Lijnders is a big coach, and I saw some of that influence in the Liverpool team I used to play for," he said.
Carragher was particularly impressed by City's counter-attacking goal at Wolves, which he felt was reminiscent of Lijnders' style at Liverpool. He also noticed that Guardiola was giving Lijnders a hug after the game, which he believes is no coincidence.
Carragher thinks Lijnders is having a big influence on Guardiola, saying, "We don't know exactly what it's for, but I don't think it's a coincidence. He's a coach who is having a big influence on Pep Guardiola."
